Hendersonville, N.C., October 22, 2019 – On Saturday, October 26 at the Henderson County Historic Courthouse in room 219, five local Eagle Scouts will be awarded college scholarships from the Dan Barber BSA Troop 601 fund held at the Community Foundation of Henderson County.
Community member Dan Barber will present the awards to newly recognized Eagle Scouts Isaac Collie, Patrick Jones, Quentin Stalker, Thomas Elley, and Ward Lilly at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. A former Troop 601 member and Eagle Scout, Dan established his fund with the Foundation in 2016 to honor and encourage members of Troop 601 that achieve their Eagle Scout rank. “These young men have worked hard to earn their Eagle Scout (only 4% of Scouts earn this designation) and I want to help them realize their potential and what opportunities a college education can afford them,” remarked Dan.
Since its inception, the Dan Barber BSA Troop 601 fund has awarded 7 scholarships totaling $3,500 to local Eagle Scouts assisting them with tuition costs during their post-secondary education journeys.
More than $6 million in scholarships has been awarded since 1983 to more than 1,300 students through the Community Foundation's scholarship program.
