The John L. Boyd Scholarship Endowment Fund was established in 2014 by the Vision Henderson County Alumni Association to help cover tuition costs for community members who wish to attend the Vision Henderson County Program, but do not have the finances available to do so. Named for its long-time facilitator, John L. Boyd, the fund will carry forward his legacy of building community leaders with a fuller sense of critical issues affecting Henderson County, while motivating Vision Alumni to collaboratively resolve them.
Vision Henderson County began its journey as a comprehensive leadership development program initiated by the Henderson County Chamber of Commerce and Blue Ridge Community College. Knowing John Boyd’s unwavering dedication to community service and strong civic leadership, the John L. Boyd, Vision Henderson County launched its first class in 1996. As a former president of Western North Carolina Entrepreneurial Council, president of the Business and Merchants Association and a Chamber board member of Henderson and Transylvania Counties, Mr. Boyd was the perfect fit to lead by example.
Vision Henderson County's mission is to promote informed and committed civic volunteerism. Vision participants are introduced to local officials and community leaders while touring businesses and organizations that make Henderson County viable. Participants gain a deeper understanding of inclusiveness, trusteeship and change agent while taking an inside look at programs that build community trustee leadership through an in-depth level of the cultural, economic, historic, social, educational, environmental and government assets in Henderson County.
