To address the emerging needs for shelter, food, and assistance for utilities, health care, mental and emotional issues exacerbated by the emerging economic climate, a community-wide initiative called “Neighbors Helping Neighbors” has been launched.
“‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’ is a community-wide effort to begin to address the financial crisis that many individuals and families are experiencing – needing food to put on their tables and a roof over their head. These are tough times, as a community we need to work together to help one another,” says McCray V. Benson, President/CEO. “There are many individuals who are facing financial crisis for the first time,” added Benson.
Assistance will be provided through an Interagency Review team, a group consisting of both the private and public sectors of service agencies. The Community Foundation has designated a portion of its unrestricted grant dollars to shore up these resources and encourages individual donors and funders to contribute to the initiative. The Review team will review requests for funding and make distribution decisions.
“The Interagency Review Team has extensive knowledge of the challenges that people in our community are facing on a day-to-day basis. The group is working together to share resources and make referrals to help our neighbors get through these unprecedented times,” said Benson.
